About PREP

No Service Member Should Have to Figure It Out Alone

PREP provides personalized, lifelong mentorship to service members from the beginning of their military careers through and beyond their transition to civilian life. Through meaningful community connections, we build trusted relationships that foster professional growth, personal development, and long-term success.Military life brings decisions that reach well beyond a career. A new leadership role can change how you relate to your team. A move can affect your family and sense of community. A decision to reenlist or transition can raise questions you have never had to answer before.PREP gives service members a trusted person to talk with and a place to work through the whole picture—not just the next job.

Our Mission Starts During Service

Separation from the military is not a requirement to benefit from mentorship. PREP builds relationships while service members are still serving, so a mentor can understand their experience, responsibilities, strengths, and goals before a major decision arrives.

That relationship can support someone taking on greater leadership responsibility, considering education or promotion, weighing a change in direction, or simply looking for perspective outside their day-to-day environment. When transition becomes the right next step, they do not have to start explaining their story from the beginning.

And if continuing to serve is the right choice, PREP supports that path, too.

Mentorship Built Around Your Goals

PREP does not begin with a predetermined outcome. We begin by listening. Your mentor takes time to understand what matters to you professionally and personally. Together, you can look at the decisions in front of you, identify where you want to grow, and build a plan that reflects your priorities and family considerations.

For career mentorship, that plan takes shape in the PREP Jacket: a roadmap that brings together your experience, strengths, development goals, and next steps. It is designed to evolve as your career and life change. PREP can also help you think through the personal and realistic challenges connected to military life and transition, and identify specialized resources when they are needed.

Connection Is Part of the Work

A plan matters. So does knowing there are people you can turn to.PREP’s mission includes building meaningful connections among service members, veterans, mentors, and the wider community. Those relationships create room to ask questions, share experience, and find perspective from people who understand military life.

That connection stays valuable after the uniform comes off. Former Marine Corps Artillery Officer Aidan R. came to PREP after his first civilian role proved to be the wrong fit. PREP helped him consider what he wanted next, then remained a source of support after he found a new position.

Support That Starts During Service and Continues Beyond It

You do not need a separation date—or even a plan to leave the military—to benefit from PREP. Starting early gives your mentor time to understand who you are, what matters to you, and how your goals are changing. That continuity matters. A mentor who already knows your story can help you evaluate a new assignment, prepare for greater leadership responsibility, revisit an education plan, or approach transition without starting over. After service, the relationship can continue as you adjust to civilian workplace expectations, pursue advancement, expand your skills, and stay connected to a community that understands where you came from.A lifelong relationship. A plan built to evolve. Support for the mission ahead.

Support That Does Not End at Placement

Finding the right civilian opportunity can be an important milestone, but it is not the finish line for mentorship. New questions arise as people settle into a role, pursue advancement, build new skills, and adjust to civilian life.

PREP is built for an ongoing relationship. We want service members to have support as they grow in uniform, move through transition, and build the next chapter on their own terms.
